Stephen Ringold: Artistic Director, Writer, Performer
His work teaching clown and circus for seven years in East Harlem public schools is the subject of both a public service documentary aired nationally on NBC entitled Portrait of a Teacher and a short film featured about four times a month on Sesame Street. As part of the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit® he has received a MacArthur Grant and the Raoul Wallenberg Humanitarian Award for the group's ongoing work as "clown doctors" in hospitals. Mr. Ringold receives a bi-annual commission to write theater introducing Philadelphia's inner-city population to exhibitions at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He is an Adjunct Professor in acting, clown, and Commedia Del'arte at New York. He presently teaches a violence prevention curriculum through circus and theatre at P.S. 126 in Queens and in an after-school program at P.S. 19 in Brooklyn. In addition, he tours tri-state schools with Kim Winslow in the curriculum-based show, Professor W's Earth Science Circus. <<Back
