The Stories of Chelm/A Puppet Trilogy

According to Grand Falloons Artistic Director, Stephen Ringold, "The secret to making great theater is to surround yourself with brilliant artists, say yes to everything they do, and then take credit for it."

For The Stories of Chelm: A Puppet Trilogy, the writer/director has:

Gathered some of New York City's greatest vaudevilliansÉ

Contracted world-renowned composers Elizabeth Swados, Frank London, and Ilene Weiss...

Adapted stories by Nobel Prize-winning writer Isaac Bashevis Singer...

and

Commissioned sets and puppets designed to invoke the fiery portraits and landscapes of the seminal post-expressionistic painter, Chaim Soutine. Our puppets range in size from two-foot cardboard cutouts to 20-foot three dimensional figures!

With a generous grant from Mr. Myron M. Kaplan & Dr. Annette Hollander, we have started production on this stunningly beautiful puppet production.

Developmental Schedule
  • We presented "The First Schlemiel," as a work in progress at the Baird Theatre in West Orange, NJ this past Spring. The music was composed by one of the most influential composers for the stage in the past 40 years, Elizabeth Swados.

  • The second of our stories, "The Snow in Chelm," will be created and premiered at the NACL Artist Colony in October. Big Apple Circus veteran, composer Ilene Weiss, will create the score.

  • The third, and most challenging of our stories, "Zlateh the Goat," will be in production and workshopped at various New York City venues in the Fall and Winter of 2006. Music will be created by Klezmatics founder, Frank London.
We will premiere the completed work in the Spring of 2007.
